For the first time in its history, the Challenge Roth run course will head straight through Roth city centre and its old town, as part of the celebrations marking Roth’s 950th anniversary.
The marathon for the ninth edition of the long-course triathlon will bring athletes and spectators closer together on the run and give runners a chance to soak up the atmosphere in town. The modification of the marathon stage, which will be maintained in the coming years, has been initiated by the city of Roth and local retailers. They feel that the integration of the city centre into the run leg will have a revitalising effect for the downtown area and will increase media presence.
The iconic Challenge Roth event claims to be the world’s largest long course triathlon, with 2,500 individual competitors and 550 teams from around the world set to start the classic event on 18 July 2010.
The amendment to the run leg of Roth comes hot on the heels of a planned UK expansion by the Challenge race format. TEAMChallenge GmbH, the organisation behind Challenge Roth and other events in the Challenge Family, has appointed Just Racing (UK) Ltd as its representative in the UK.
Headed by Alan Rose, Just Racing is currently investigating suitable locations to bring the Challenge Family of long distance triathlons to the UK. With Challenge races in France, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Austria and New Zealand, all of which enjoy strong support from UK athletes, there has already been considerable interest from a number of UK venues.
