Felt Bicycles issues product recall

Felt Bicycles, in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has undertaken a voluntary recall of 2009 Felt B12, B16 and S32 road bicycles. Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Around 2,100 bicycles are understood to be affected by the recall. The bike models, imported by Felt into the US and manufactured by ADK Technology Limited of China, may have an issue with the fork.

According to Felt and the US CPSC, the bicycle’s fork steer tube can break, causing the rider to lose control, fall and suffer injuries. Felt has received seven reports of the bicycle forks breaking. Minor injuries, including bumps and bruises were reported in one of the incidents.

The 2009 B12 models in question are gloss silver/carbon and have carbon fibre frames with carbon fibre forks with aluminium steer tubes. The 2009 B16 bicycles are matte black/red and have carbon fibre frames with carbon fibre forks with aluminium steer tubes. The 2009 S32 models are available in gloss white/red and have aluminium frames with carbon fibre forks with aluminium steer tubes.

The bikes were sold at specialty stores nationwide across the US from October 2008 through to May 2010 for between about US$2,300 and US$3,100 per bicycle.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact their local Felt Bicycles dealer to receive a free inspection and repair.
