Iconic triathlon sponsors Ford and Timex have teamed up to offer free gear on social networking site foursquare, all season long. Meanwhile, life just keeps getting better for the athletes of the Timex Multisport Team.
This off-season, the team was outfitted with custom apparel, new bikes fitted with Shimano and Shimano PRO, and this week, joining the family will be five brand new Ford Flex vehicles as part of a new programme between Timex and Ford – two of the biggest supporters in the history of triathlon.
“As a long-time supporter of triathlon, we understand the challenges athletes face – balancing their busy lives while committing so much time and energy into racing and training,” said Keith Meyer, Manager of Event Marketing and Sponsorships at Timex.
“These vehicles will help make life for our elite athletes a little bit easier. It’s just another way for us to say ‘thank you’ to the competitors who make this sport great.”
The new Flex’s will be based in San Diego, Boulder, Denver, Milwaukee in Wisconsin, and Middlebury in Connecticut, and will be shared among the local team members for use around town and at races. Each car will sport Timex’s iconic logo, and will be outfitted with flip cams and other toys.
"Ford is delighted to be supplying the Timex Multisport Team with the Ford Flex," said Kate Pearce, Flex Marketing Manager. "These are the finest athletes around and we feel they deserve the best. The Flex delivers unrivalled space, style and performance and will be the perfect fit for these busy triathletes. We wish them all the best in their endeavours."
Meanwhile, Timex is giving away all kinds of great swag – Timex training instruments, Headsweats hats, and Timex branded T shirts – just for following the cars on web and mobile application foursquare. Sign up to follow Timex, and when the brand ‘checks in’ and provides a ‘tip’, simply visit the nearby car and mention the ‘tip’ to the Timex athlete on-site.
First arrivals will claim their prizes on the spot. Tracking down one of the vehicles shouldn’t be much of a challenge. The Flex’s will be at several local and regional events as well as numerous clinics at area specialty retailers.
“We look forward to keeping in touch with everyone on foursquare, and giving away some great gear this season,” said Barry Siff, who will manage the Boulder car among six local teammates. “We’ll be in the hottest tri markets in the country, and of course at all of the big races.”
