The city of Milan is to be transformed on 25 July with Garmin now backing the Milano City Triathlon. At the onset of the event and with Garmin in the role of title sponsor, event organiser I AM Sports & Events Consulting has revealed details of Milan’s first ever Olympic distance triathlon, with many other organisations also giving their support.
Following collaboration with the Municipality of Milan and Alan Rizzi, Sport Councillor of Milan, a map of the event route was today put on show. Athletes will swim along the Naviglio Grande to within the dock area. The race then continues on bike Via D’Annunzio in Largo Cairoli with a circuit around the Parco Sempione, and then a ride to arrive in Piazza Duomo, with another loop around the historic city centre.
"We believe that the Garmin Milano City Triathlon has the qualities to become a cult event of our city,” said Stefano Vigano, Sales & Marketing Manager, Sports and Outdoor, at Garmin Italy.
The city will adapt to put the athletes in the best possible safety and road conditions. This will be achieved via support from the city of Milan, Lombardy Region, Police, ATM, AMSA, and Hawks Police Motorcycle Group of Milan City – amongst others.
Federal Judges of the Italian Triathlon Federation will oversee the competition along with the Milan Road Runners Club, which also helped to kick start the project.
For the first edition of the Garmin Milan City Triathlon, the three friends and triathletes Mark Gallienus, Stefano and Andrea Leone Vasco, founders of I AM Sports & Events Consulting, have preferred to open the tender to a limited number of participants to test the organisational structure and obtain a proof of concept for subsequent years.
Through its new Olympic triathlon, Milan is hot on the heels of other large European cities such as Hamburg, Vienna, Madrid, London and Kitzb
