Taiwan’s Giant Manufacturing, the world’s largest bicycle maker by revenue, has confirmed further details for its new plant in China.

Giant said on Monday that it will invest an initial US$36 million (€26 million) on the new bicycle and electric car plant in eastern China – located in Kunshan city in the Jiangsu province.

It appears that the focus of the plant will be on bicycle and electric car manufacturing. Although, the new Kunshan site will also produce bicycle frames and carbon fibre.

The company will commence the main construction phase of the plant in June. It is expected to have an annual capacity of 1.5 million bicycles once it becomes operational in 2011.

Giant currently operates five factories in China, producing bicycles, electric cars and aluminium alloy.
