Two leading faces of the German triathlon scene have merged to create the largest triathlon portal in Germany. Effective from 5 May 2010, triathlon.de – an innovative and fast-growing site for triathlon and endurance sports in the country – has tied up with 3athlon.de a highly popular site amongst the fast growing community of German triathletes.
triathlon.de, operated by the Munich-based triathlon.de GmbH, has been regarded as a leading player in the German triathlon scene over the last two years and operates as a tri retailer with stores in Essen and Munich.
3athlon.de is one of the oldest and most prestigious special interest triathlon sites worldwide, with over 20,000 registered users.
The merger of the two major German sites will leverage the advantages of both platforms, with a range of offerings for Germany’s triathlon community combined permanently at an ‘attractive price’.
Ralph Schick, CEO of triathlon.de GmbH considers the merger with the 3athlon brand as "the right step for the further positioning of triathlon.de as an attractive and comprehensive triathlon magazine.” The active triathlete and operator of two retail stores in Essen and Munich wants a "seamless integration of the fans and users of 3athlon.de and its partners.”
Kai Baumgartner, has acted as a long time editor of 3athlon.de with his track record in sports nutrition, marketing and e-commerce as well as freelance activities for Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corporation.
Baumgartner added that "3athlon.de was a beautiful, diverse and very intense phase of life with all its ups and downs. With its passion, commentary and its own investigative reporting, I am pleased to be able to accompany the triathlon movement going forwards from a slightly different perspective as a consultant."
