A collaboration between Red Licorice Events and Jack & Adam’s Bicycles has brought about the Sub 17 Series of races in and around the Austin, Texas area. The Sub17 Series is a staged iron-distance race designed to keep participants motivated throughout the season. The series of swim-bike-run races add up to the fabled 140.6 miles iron distance.
If the series is completed in under 17 hours each participant shall earn a finisher’s package at the Red Licorice Events end of year party. ‘Do it REALLY fast and you could earn an age group award.’
"Most triathletes, especially those competing in iron distance events, are constantly asked ‘do you have to go all 140.6 miles in one day?’" said Series Director, Joey Trimyer. "We thought it would be fun to offer a way to get in the 140.6 miles of a long triathlon without having to do it in one day. Sub17 is a play on the 17 hour cut-off time at most iron distance races."
The new Sub17 Series kicked off on 2 May 2010 with the 2.4 mile ‘Open Water Swim’ at West Lake Beach in Austin, Texas.
The 112 mile ‘Ring of Fire Bike Ride’ event takes place on Saturday 14 August 2010 in Luckenbach, Texas. And finally the 26.2 mile ‘Frankenthon Marathon’ is held on Saturday 23 October at Brushy Creek, Austin, Texas.
