A tangle of broadcasting and road traffic challenges, surrounding the cycling road time trial and the triathlon, are causing some headaches for organisers at the London 2012 Olympics.
The staging of both events will tie up roads in the capital and could cause major traffic disruption if they are held mid-week.
Organisers at London 2012 favour the triathlon event to be held during the middle weekend of the Games. This would minimise the impact of shutting down major roads. However, the middle weekend of the Games sees swimming, athletics and other events competing for TV air time.
"There is still some work to do in some events and some of the events are still to be solved," said International Olympic Committee Executive Director Gilbert Felli. "We will seek of the view of the broadcasters, the international federations and the IOC to resolve this."
It is understood that the cycling time trial will be held midweek in the first week. Although, the time trial may be moved outside of London to avoid any ensuing traffic chaos.
Triathlon, with its planned city centre course, may yet take centre stage during one of the main spectator weekends of the Games.
