Six collegiate student-athletes have been elected to represent their regions as part of the USA Triathlon Collegiate Commission. Voted on by teams in their region, the new commissioners began serving their two-year terms at the end of May.

The USAT Collegiate Commission strives to develop and promote the sport of triathlon at the collegiate level. Since 2005, the Collegiate Commission has increased awareness and development of triathlon at the collegiate level and acted as a representative for regional institutions that want to voice concerns and opinions.

The new collegiate commissioners are:
• Katherine Warren (UCSB), Elite athlete rep
• David Shofield (University of Florida), Florida region
• Robert Ferris (Duke University), Mid-Atlantic region
• Mike Abbene (Northeastern University), Northeast region
• Casey Hill (Ohio State University), Mideast region
• Elizabeth Baugher (Texas A&M University), South Midwest region

“Each year, the commission pulls in more and more representatives who are extremely passionate about improving the sport at the collegiate level,” said Mark Stoutenberg, the Committee Chair for the Collegiate Commission. “This year is no different. We have an extraordinary group of individuals who have already dived in head first to help triathlon grow at the regional and national level.”

The 2010-11 Collegiate Commission is rounded out with four returning commissioners: J Ritterbeck (Southwest), Mike Garton (Midwest), Nate Robinson (Southeast) and David Zitelli (Rocky Mountain).
