Challenge Wanaka has confirmed a further strengthening of Western Pacific Insurance’s ongoing support of ‘New Zealand’s fastest growing triathlon.’ The Challenge Wanaka event sees a doubling of the Western Pacific Performance Bonus to $20,000 with the insurance group providing free event insurance for all athletes with favourable rates on personal insurance.
Western Pacific Insurance CEO, Jeffrey McNally, said the company was delighted to increase its support of Challenge Wanaka. "With the introduction of our personal insurance products, we’re able to add further value to the athletes by not only providing them with race day insurance but also great value insurance throughout the year. Challenge Wanaka has grown into an iconic event and with our head office based in Queenstown, we think it is vital to support an event that brings so much to the region."
The next Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival takes place on 9-15 January 2011 featuring junior, sprint and half events as well as the flagship Challenge Wanaka event for up to 1,500 athletes.
Western Pacific Insurance is a firm supporter of promoting sporting excellence and for the 2011 event it is doubling the Western Pacific Performance Bonus paid to NZ$10,000 for the first male athlete who finishes in under 8:20 and the first female who comes in under 9:15. Richard Ussher (NZL) came close in 2010, just 4 minutes and 41 seconds off the jackpot, while the fastest time for the female field is 09.28:27 achieved by Gina Crawford (NZL) in 2009.
Western Pacific will again give every competitor free insurance cover to the value of $2 million of personal liability insurance and $1,000 of personal property insurance (covering personal property against loss, damage or theft during the event). In addition the company is offering all athletes 13 months insurance for the price of 12 on their house, contents and private motor vehicle insurance policies, to commemorate the recently launched new range of Personal Lines products.
The recreational field of Challenge Wanaka is also strongly encouraged with the Western Pacific Champion Club Trophy, awarded to the highest placed club team. Since its inception it has been won twice by the Southland Tri and Multisport club. The trophy encourages healthy competition between club teams with a view to getting more people involved in iron distance racing.
