According to reports by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Kleine Zeitung and triathlon blog Kaihawaii/’DNF is no option’ – Stefan Petschnig is the new Managing Director for Europe & South Africa at Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). Petschnig succeeds Kai Walter to oversee and manage the expansion of Ironman in Europe.
It is understood that Kai Walter still retains a role at WTC in Europe, involved in the execution of races at Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Regensburg, amongst others.
Together with Georg Hochegger (now TriStar/Star Events) and Helge Lorenz, Stefan Petschnig is a founder at European Ironman event organiser Triangle Events, which manages Ironman races in Austria, France and South Africa. Having establishing Triangle Events in 1997, Petschnig built Ironman Austria, Ironman South Africa and Ironman 70.3 Austria from the ground up.
Prior to taking on the Managing Director role for Ironman in Europe and South Africa, Petschnig had a management role at UEFA Fanzone Klagenfurt. He was also the MD for Business Development at Ironman Europe and Africa, and actively involved in PR management for the Ironman brand.
Former banker Andreas Zois also steps in as the new Head of Finance for Ironman in Europe & South Africa, representing the interests of the private equity fund Providence Equity Partners, which has controlled WTC since 2008.
