Ironman Mont-Tremblant is IM North American Championship in 2013-2014

World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) and officials from the city of Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada, have announced that Ironman Mont-Tremblant has been officially designated as the Ironman North American Championship in 2013 and 2014.

The inaugural Ironman Mont-Tremblant, held on 19 August 2012, received rave reviews from many of the athletes, their families, the community and organizers alike. The race features the scenic countryside of the province of Quebec, and the ski village flair of the world-renowned Tremblant Resort, offering an international-style experience that is unique to the North American continent.

The choice of Mont-Tremblant in Canada as North American Championship also appears a strategic one for WTC. This is given the entry of the Challenge Family into North America via Canada in recent months and the pending change of location for the Ironman Canada event; both of which are making Canada a key target for the long distance tri event big guns!

“Mont-Tremblant surpassed expectations this summer and offered a warm welcome to the entire Ironman community, providing a superb set-up with activities for athletes and supporters alike, as well as a beautiful yet challenging race course,” said Steve Meckfessel, Managing Director of Global Race Operations for Ironman.

“We are pleased to have it become the Ironman North American Championship. It has already proven to be a popular Ironman destination, and this should only make it more exciting.”

As the Ironman North American Championship event for the next two years, Mont-Tremblant will be a P-4000 race featuring a US$125,000 professional prize purse and 75 age group qualifying slots for the Ironman World Championship that takes place each October in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.

“It is a huge honour for us to host the Ironman North American Championship for the next two years, as well as a great reward for our community,” said Alain Houde, General Director, Tourism Mont-Tremblant. “Our residents worked hard this summer and offered athletes a fine experience. This will further motivate us to do even better, year after year; it is great to be recognized.”

While general entry for the 2013 race is now closed, limited Ironman Foundation spots are still available for the 2013 Ironman North American Championship at Mont-Tremblant.
