Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corp (WTC) has confirmed its latest sponsorship agreement with Duane Reade – ‘the largest and most recognized drugstore chain in Metropolitan New York.’
The sponsorship sees Duane Reade on board with the Ironman US Championships, hosted in New York/New Jersey on 11 August, with Duane Reade as the presenting sponsor of the inaugural event’s expo, which runs from 8-11 August. The IMNYC Village presented by Duane Reade will be open during race week, giving heightened exposure to the pharmacy chain’s brand.
Full details of the sponsorship have yet to be announced, although is also understood that Holy Name Medical Center will also be on board as the exclusive medical centre for the IMNYC race.
The Ironman US Championships is set to be one of the highest profile events on the international Ironman circuit. The race will be the first-ever Ironman competition to be held in the New York City/New Jersey metropolitan region. When released for sale in June, the main batch of general registration tickets sold out in a lightning fast 11 minutes!
As such a high-profile event, IMNYC has steadily been attracting the interest of sponsors:
- Back in May, WTC confirmed a global sponsorship with Aquadraat Sports that designates it as the Official Water of Ironman. In addition to providing water for Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races around the world, Aquadraat Sports became the title sponsor of the Ironman US Championship.
- Meanwhile, in July, Amway North America signed a four-race expo partnership agreement that included the Aquadraat Sports Ironman US Championship, introducing Amway’s NUTRILITE brand to a new audience of endurance sport enthusiasts.
The inaugural Aquadraat Sports Ironman US Championship is expected to include nearly 3,000 athletes from 46 US states and 41 countries, nearly 5,000 volunteers and more than 200,000 total spectators, in one of the largest media markets in the world.
