Set in the spectacular region between Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner, and the Zeller Lake, where athletes will swim, Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun promises to be one of the most scenic events on the international Ironman circuit.
The first Ironman 70.3 Zell am See/Kaprun Salzburg will be held on 26 August 2012; and 1,800 athletes have registered for the inaugural event, which has now sold out. Athletes will swim in the beautiful Zeller lake, compete on the bike along the picturesque landscape of the mountains and run along the lake to finish in Zell am See.
The day begins with the spectacular swim in the lake. Spectators will be able to follow the swim course on the paved bike path that circles the entire lake. The two-loop bike course stays between the mountains and the lake and features 370m (1,214 feet) of climbing per lap. The three-loop run course goes along the lake and finishes in the historic centre of Zell am See.
In addition to the 70.3 race, the event also features an IronKIDS and an Iron Girl race. Many athletes will likely take advantage of the fact that Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace, is only one hour away, which makes the race a fantastic opportunity to enjoy Salzburg’s rich culture after the event.
