Life Time – ‘The Healthy Way of Life Company’ – has a commitment to reverse the destructive state of health, and poor levels of nutrition, in the US. The gym operator and events business has raised the stakes in tackling health issues and is on a mission to ‘drive the way we all think about healthier living.’
Life Time starts by highlighting the troubling stats affecting the US nation:
- Two in three individuals are considered overweight or obese, giving rise to US$190.2 billion in health expenses in a year and quickly becoming the number one killer of Americans
- US children’s life expectancy is now less than ours
- More than 105 million Americans have cardiovascular disease
- The average child spends more than 30% of his/her day in front of a screen
- Due largely to obesity, 25.8 million Americans have diabetes
- Ultimately, we are living a lifestyle that will destroy us
Life Time has made a commitment to focus on reversing the current, destructive state of health and poor nutrition in the US by urging all Americans to commit to a healthy and active way of life through ‘Commitment Day’.
Under the new program, people of all ages and physical abilities are encouraged to commit and extend a helping hand to others to do the same. It’s a movement to unify the US nation around a cause for much needed change, before it is irreversible. Anyone interested in making a commitment can log on to share their personal pledges toward better health at CommitmentDay.com, a new site dedicated to sharing the power of positive change.
As part of the movement, Life Time will also host a simultaneous 5K-run/walk event in 35 cities to kick off the New Year.
On 1 January 2013 (11:00 ET, 10:00 CT, 09:00 MT and 08:00 PT) hundreds of thousands of Americans will join together in support of healthy people, a healthy planet and a healthy way of life.
Americans are being urged to run, walk, skip, dance or jog with their family, co-workers and neighbours and make a commitment to live a healthy lifestyle while helping others do the same. To participate, individuals can simply select a city and register at CommitmentDay.com.
Life Time has a diverse portfolio – with a range of distinctive and large sports, professional fitness, family recreation and spa destinations. Today, the company operates 105 centres under the LIFE TIME FITNESS and LIFE TIME ATHLETIC brands in the United States and Canada.
The company also organises the Life Time Tri and Race to the Toyota Cup Series. Earlier this year, Life Time acquired CEO Challenges, the leading player in organising multisport competitions for CEOs.
