Based in the Chicago metro area, Dark Speed Works is now primed for a launch of its latest tri accessories. Taking a by athletes, for athletes positioning, the Dark Speed Works team has approaching four decades of experience in the sport of triathlon as athletes, competitors, coaches and product designers.
Offering ‘streamlined storage with the aero advantage’, the company’s Speedpack 480 is a top tube-mounted gel, fuel, and gear pack that is designed to improve the aerodynamic characteristics of road, triathlon/time trial bikes. As the company points out, wind tunnel testing has shown that, depending on the bike design, the addition of a top tube bento-type pack can actually reduce a bike’s aero drag. And reducing drag means more speed at a given power output.
The universal mount Speedpack 480 and the bolt-mounted 480D have been gracing the top tubes of bikes across North America in recent months. Going forwards into 2012, Dark Speed Works will issue the Speedpack 483 and the Speedpack 483D. The ‘D’ suffix indicates that the pack will have direct mounting capability and will come with lightweight alloy bolts for this purpose.
Following the recent release of Cervélo’s latest tri bike, the P5, Dark Speed Works has been testing its products’ compatibilities. Following the company’s work with Cervélo, Dark Speed Works confirms that ‘the Speedpack 480D will perfectly fit on the frame’s top tube bolt bosses and the pack will seamlessly integrate with the bike’s several available 3T aerobar set-ups.’
Company founder Greg Grunner also added that the company’s range are very much Made in America. “Instead of getting our products made for us overseas, we keep jobs here in the USA by actually making our products ourselves in the Chicago area with help from local US independent contractors,” Grunner said.
“We strive to offer our customer-athletes exceptional and innovative products, as well as excellent customer service. We make every effort to answer customer and dealer inquires promptly. And we also welcome questions, comments, ideas, or suggestions. We’ve found that the best ideas come from athletes who use our products every day.”
