Pearl Izumi becomes 2012 USA Pro Challenge Official Technical Apparel Partner

Global sports apparel brand Pearl Izumi has signed on for a second year with the USA Pro Challenge and will once again be the technical apparel partner of the professional cycling road race, taking place from 20-26 August 2012. Under the two-year partnership renewal, Pearl Izumi will be the official cycling apparel partner for the race and will provide the classification jerseys that are awarded to the athletes each day.

This latest sponsorship confirmation for the Pro Challenge (also referred to as the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, USPCC) follows the recent confirmation of Nissan as a sponsor partner.

The in-competition classification jerseys for 2012 will all feature Pearl Izumi’s patented aerodynamic sleeve construction. The company will also create replica classification jerseys that are available for sale to the public, as well as commemorative jerseys designed specifically for the race. The 2012 commemorative jersey is now available on the race website.

“Pearl Izumi has a long-standing tradition of innovation, creating fabrics that allow athletes to enjoy their activities more comfortably; they truly understand the needs of cyclists,” said Shawn Hunter, CEO of the USA Pro Challenge. “The company’s second-year partnership with the USA Pro Challenge shows their commitment to the continued success of professional cycling in the United States.”

As the official licensee for USA Pro Challenge jerseys, Pearl Izumi will be responsible for all jerseys, including those for awards, commemorative purposes, the founder’s club, and in-race category leader’s jerseys.

As in 2011, race jerseys will be sold mutually online on both the USA Pro Challenge and Pearl Izumi websites. Pro Challenge jerseys will also be available at select Pearl Izumi retail locations. In addition, the company will offer technical apparel at the 2012 race, including jackets, socks, cycling hats, leg and arm warmers, technical tops and pants.

“Our company’s history runs deep in the sport of professional cycling,” said Geoff Shaffer, Global Marketing Director from Pearl Izumi. “For the past 60 years Pearl Izumi has been a leader in the cycling apparel and footwear industry, and having the chance to partner with a world-class race in Colorado makes it the perfect platform to grow our presence in the sport.”

Pearl Izumi is a leading ‘high-performance, high-tech’ Run, Ride & Tri apparel and footwear brand for avid cycling, tri and running enthusiasts. Based in Louisville, Colorado, a suburb of Boulder, Pearl Izumi is a wholly owned subsidiary of Shimano American Corporation, located in Irvine, California.
