Quintana Roo and Teens Living with Cancer raise much needed funds in Kona

For the 2012 Ironman World Championship, Quintana Roo (QR) is partnering with QT2 Systems’ triathlon coach and ‘Crusader against Cancer’ Mary Eggers to support the charity closest to her heart – Teens Living with Cancer (TLC).

This week Mary has returned to Kona for the first time in 13 years, and QR sees this as the perfect way to help with the fight against cancer.

“To be able to come to Kona and support QT2 athletes at the World Championships is a big treat,” said Mary Eggers, a mother, cancer crusader, triathlete and world-famous blogger. “But the opportunity to partner with Quintana Roo in raising money for TLC, and give these teens, who have fought so bravely, is a huge honour.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for using this platform of sport to bring awareness to a forgotten group – Teens Living with Cancer.”

Starting on Tuesday 9 October and ending on Saturday 13 October at midnight, in Kona, Hawaii, QR will sell its remaining 2012 CD0.1 framesets for US$1800, with US$250 going to TLC.

QR will also offer the 2013 Illicito frameset, on pre-order, for US$3200, with US$500 going to TLC. The promotional framesets can be purchased in Hawaii at the Ironman World Championship Expo, at a local QR retailer, or by emailing tres[at]americanbicyclegroup.com.

Both framesets include the frame, fork, headset, seat post, and brakes. The 2012 CD0.1 frameset retailed for US$2400 and the 2013 Illicito will retail for US$3200. Once the frameset is purchased, QR will need a proof of purchase with customer information to make the donation to Teens Living with Cancer. This can again be emailed tres[at]americanbicyclegroup.com or mailed to American Bicycle Group, PO Box 22666, Chattanooga, TN 37422.

“This is our fifth year at the World Championship Expo,” said Mac McEneaney, Director of Sales for QR. “We’ve had the chance to work with Mary and TLC on several different levels this year. We wanted to work with Mary in some way at Kona because she’s about more than triathlon. We’re thrilled she’s going to be in Hawaii, and we plan to use this environment to raise some money for TLC.”

Teens Living with Cancer (TLC) is the peer support program of Melissa’s Living Legacy Teen Cancer Foundation. Its mission is to help teens live their best life through all stages of their disease and treatment.
