Multisport Performance Institute (MPI), a leading provider of multisport coaching, training camps, clinics, specialized services and events has today confirmed that CEO and co-founder, Mark Sortino, has been named a Head Coach for Team USA’s Paratriathlon Team.
Joining Coach Mark will be Hector Torres, of Tri Peak Athlete LLC. Mark Sortino and Hector Torres were both selected by USA Triathlon (USAT) for the Head Coach roles.
Team USA’s 31 paratriathletes, representing all six categories of the sport, will compete at the ITU World Championships on 22 October in Auckland, New Zealand. “It’s a great opportunity for me to work as a Team USA coach at an international competition with many of the athletes I’ve coached at Paratriathlon and High Performance Camps,” said Coach Mark Sortino.
Paratriathlon was selected as a Paralympic sport and will debut in 2016 in Rio De Janeiro. Currently four paratriathletes are part of Team MPI including Amy Dodson and Karen Aydelott – both of whom are racing at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii this year.
In other MPI initiatives, the company recently concluded its 2012 Portofino Sunset Tri Series presented by Bikes Plus. The nine series’ Super Sprint distance triathlons were held on Thursday evenings from April through August and included a women-only race and a relay-only race. This was the second year for the series. The series was seen as a tremendous success and will continue on in 2013.
In response to athletes seeking affiliation with Team MPI, a new membership level has also been developed and is now offered to non-coached athletes. For just US$40 per year, members receive a welcome package, discounts on select products and services, and access to Team MPI online resources. Registration for the program is available on the MPI website.
