As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations for the 2012 Noosa Triathlon, the event’s organizers are pleased to announce that Noosa has been nominated as a qualification race for the 2013 Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship to be held in Des Moines, Iowa, on 1 September 2013.
The Noosa Triathlon will take place on Sunday 4 November 2012 in Noosa, Queensland, Australia.
Noosa is a 5 day festival of sport and entertainment, which this year runs from 31 October to 4 November. Noosa has events for the sporting enthusiast, elite athletes and celebrities in one of Australia’s most popular destinations. As Australia’s largest, oldest and highest profile triathlon event, the Noosa Triathlon Olympic distance race is one of the most iconic races, recognized worldwide for its unique festival format.
Beyond Australia, Noosa is amongst the largest triathlon events worldwide – as it attracts over 8,500 triathlon competitors and over 10,000 across the wider festival.
As a qualifier for the 2013 Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship, the Noosa Triathlon has been awarded as a P750 and carries a prize purse of A$55,000.
The alliance between Noosa and Hy-Vee/5150 follows the February 2012 acquisition of USM Events by Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). USM Events is Australia’s leading event management company and is the owner of iconic premier multisport festivals at Noosa, Cairns, Mooloolaba and Geelong.
As part of the acquisition, WTC integrated the management of its Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races into USM’s operational and management structure Down Under. The deal also saw the Noosa Triathlon become part of the Ironman family of events.
WTC introduced the 5150 brand in 2010 in order to make its mark in standard/Olympic/international distance triathlon racing. While the 5150 series has yet to reach the impact of its sister brand Ironman, it is a worldwide series of non-drafting races culminating with a series Grand Final held over the official Olympic distance of 1.5K swim, 40K cycle and 10K run.
2012 Noosa Triathlon Elite entries are still available. Athletes should contact multisport[at]usmevents.com.au to express their interest in an entry. Entries must be finalised by 22 October 2012.
