Toyota SheROX gears up for series finale in Bermuda

With one of the most beautiful race courses in all of triathlon, the Toyota SheROX Triathlon Series, the eight race, all-women’s sprint distance triathlon series, will once again host its season finale on the island of Bermuda on 4 November 2012 with the third annual Toyota SheROX Bermuda Triathlon.

In conjunction with the Bermuda Department of Tourism, the country’s Fairmont Southampton resort provides a picturesque backdrop hosting over 200 women for a sprint distance triathlon consisting of a 0.8K swim, 18.6 K bike and 5K run. Athletes can still register for one of the few remaining slots at SheROXTri.com.

“There is no better way to conclude your race season than to race in paradise at the Toyota SheROX Bermuda Triathlon,” said Barb McKeever, Toyota SheROX Series Director. “Over the last three years, SheROX Bermuda has become THE destination race for hundreds of women as a girls’ weekend, family vacation or just a weekend getaway.

“We want to thank the Bermuda Department of Tourism and the people of Bermuda for welcoming us back as we showcase this beautiful island to more of our SheROX athletes.”

The Toyota SheROX Bermuda festivities begin on Saturday 3 November, as athletes are encouraged to join a group ride of the bike course, enjoy a beautiful morning of resort activities, pick up their race packets and attend an informal pasta dinner at The Fairmont Southampton.

The race begins on Sunday morning with a swim in the waters of the protected cove of East Whale Bay at the Fairmont Southampton’s Beach Club. The bike and run courses along South Road provide one of the most scenic sprint tri courses in the sport with panoramic views of the ocean. A Sunday evening awards party caps off the Toyota SheROX Bermuda experience.

“Bermuda will once again be at the forefront of the triathlon world as we welcome back the Toyota SheROX Triathlon,” noted William Griffith, Director, Bermuda Department of Tourism. “Partnering with such a great organization truly enhances the profile of Bermuda’s sport tourism. We hope all of the athletes and their guests enjoy their time in Bermuda and we wish them the best of luck on race day.”

In its sixth year, the Toyota SheROX Triathlon Series featured eight race weekends in 2012 with six returning locations:

  • Naperville, Illinois;
  • Detroit, Michigan;
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania;
  • Asbury Park, New Jersey;
  • San Diego, California; and
  • Bermuda

… and two new venues

  • Cherry Creek, Colorado; and
  • Devens, Massachusetts

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) serves as the Official Charitable Partner of the 2012 Toyota SheROX Triathlon Series. OCRF is dedicated to the formulation of early diagnostic treatment programs and research toward the ultimate conquest of ovarian cancer. SheROX athletes can join ‘Team Hope’ – pledging to raise funds for OCRF as they race.

Earlier this year, the SheROX Triathlon Series confirmed a partnership with Toyota to become the title sponsor of the leading international women’s multisport series. The addition of Toyota as title sponsor follows a partnership between the SheROX Triathlon Series and Life Time Fitness Inc, ‘the Healthy Way of Life Company’.

Then towards the end of June 2012, SheROX became part of Competitor Group Inc (CGI), when CGI confirmed a deal to acquire the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon (PHLYTRI) and the Toyota SheROX Triathlon Series, ‘the fastest growing women’s triathlon series’ in the US, from Philadelphia Triathlon LLC.

Under its new ownership at CGI, the Toyota SheROX Triathlon Series joins CGI’s newly developed global women’s endurance sports platform, currently anchored by Women’s Running magazine, the Lady Speed Stick Women’s Half Marathon Series and WomensRunning.com.
