Trek signs Linsey Corbin and Melanie McQuaid

Trek Bicycle has confirmed the additional of two high profile multisport athletes to its roster: top US Ironman and Ironman 70.3 finisher Linsey Corbin; and three-time World XTERRA champion triathlete Melanie McQuaid.

Corbin embraces Speed Concept
Professional triathlete Linsey Corbin, the top American finisher at both the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 world championships will race aboard Trek’s Speed Concept 9.9 over the next three years as she continues to vie for the top step of triathlon’s most prestigious podiums.

“Linsey’s consistent results at the top of the sport make her a perfect match for representing Trek,” said Trek Performance Brand Manager Nick Howe. “Her mental toughness and positive attitude combined with her success on the course make it really exciting for us to bring her into the Trek family, and we’re excited for her to represent us aboard the Speed Concept.”

“To be a part of the Trek family, riding the fastest bike on the market – it is only going to help my performances,” said Corbin. “The first road bike I bought was a Trek 5600 and I’ve always admired the fastest cyclists in the sport: Julie Dibens and Chris Lieto. Just like my athletic pursuits, Trek is constantly pushing the envelope with innovation and design. I am looking forward to many fast and fun times ahead.”

Both Corbin and her custom Trek Speed Concept 9.9 will be attending the ‘Meet the Pros’ night at Trek Bicycles of Tucson. The event will be held on 10 February 2012 from 18:00-21:00 local time.

McQuaid goes Superfly!
Trek Bicycle has meanwhile confirmed its partnership with seven-time Canadian National and three-time World XTERRA champion triathlete Melanie McQuaid. The tenacious Canadian will be attacking her 2012 off-road racing schedule aboard Trek’s defending XTERRA World Champion 29er, the OCLV-Mountain Superfly 100.

For her half-Ironman pursuits across more civilized terrain, McQuaid will be armed with Trek’s Kammtail Virtual Foil-equipped Speed Concept 9.9.

“The Superfly is the perfect bike for all of the high-speed XTERRA courses and will make me even faster,” said McQuaid. “The fastest cyclists in 70.3 and Ironman racing are on Trek bikes and that’s where I want to be. Being presented with an opportunity to join the Trek family was something I couldn’t pass up.”

The defending ITU Cross Triathlon World Champion’s 2012 season will include a mix of 70.3 triathlons and XTERRA events leading up to the XTERRA World Championships in October, where she has the title set squarely in her sights.

“Trek is really proud to welcome a champion like Melanie to our triathlon family,” added Nick Howe. “She’s a threat to win any event she enters, and we’re excited to support her with our bikes and the full effort of our dedicated race team department.”
