Multisport coaching specialist Tri Dynamic has sent in its camp report from the second edition of the popular Tenerife Swim Faster Camp with Head Swim For Tri Coach, Dan Bullock. The lucky camp participants jetted off from their wintery home countries to sunny Tenerife where it was around 25 degrees every day!
The camp took place at the world class Tenerife Top Training facility where once again participants got to share pool time with world champions, Olympians and watch some of the best swimmers in the world training.
This year Scotland and Team GB’s European, Commonwealth and World Championship medallist Hannah Miley was training at the facility at the same time. Camp athletes also had the opportunity to watch Swedish swimming legend Therese Alshammar who was training at the same time as the group.
Participants at the camp came from a wide range of abilities and triathlon distances ranging from Sprint to Ironman as well as from open water swimming and pool backgrounds. They were all keen to spend a week working closely with and learning from Dan Bullock in a high attention environment.
They also benefitted from having nutrition products provided by PowerBar on the camp and Skinfit camp t-shirts. With limited numbers of places available each participant received lots of individual coaching and feedback on their technique as well as a DVD of all their footage and progression throughout the week to take home.
With some 14 swimming sessions available with Dan Bullock throughout the week and some 25,000m covered with multiple swims every day there were some big improvements across the board. There were also helpful flexibility sessions with Dan Bullock before the morning swims to improve the camp athletes’ range of motion and core strength.
Technical sessions, drills focus and the all-important filming with Dan Bullock took place in the ‘baby pool’ 25m pool in the mornings. The afternoon longer endurance sessions were for putting into practice what participants learned in the evening classroom sessions with Dan Bullock. These sessions took to the 10 lane 50m pool where the Swiss, Czech and Finnish national teams were also training.
Open water sessions took place at the beaches nearby to the hotel where open water swimming techniques, sighting, drafting and swimming in packs was covered by Dan Bullock. There was also a very well received optional run technique and filming session with former World Age Group Duathlon Champion and 10:01 Ironman competitor Vicky Gill.
Some athletes also found time on the schedule to get out on their bikes for a few rides to keep their miles up, challenging themselves with the impressive ride up to the base of Mt Teide which rises from sea level to an impressive 2,100m in around 40km!
Commenting on the camp Dan Bullock said “I really enjoyed coming back to Tenerife for this camp. We had a great bunch of athletes who were all really motivated and made some impressive improvements across the week. We’re looking forward to next year already.”
Camp participant Verity Westgate was back on the camp for her second time and said “Thank you to Tri Dynamic and Dan Bullock for another fantastic swim camp in sunny Tenerife. I could feel improvements after just two sessions in the water, and I am sure that I now have the skills at my disposal to get under the hour for 3.8K.”
Next up for Tri Dynamic is its Mallorca Spring Triathlon Camp with coaching legend Joe Friel; and he will be assisted by TrainingBible Coaching UK’s Head Coach Rob Griffiths. Then in May the organisation will be running the second edition of its Italian Tri Camp with Joe Friel & Will Newbery, with the option of riding the Nove Colli at the end of the week.
