New Physically Challenged Open/Exhibition Division for IRONMAN and IM 70.3 World Championships

IRONMAN has announced today a new Physically Challenged Open/Exhibition Division drawing for both the IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship events. Free registration will be available starting today. To honour the vision of IRONMAN co-founders, John and Judy Collins, IRONMAN adds that it ‘remains committed to providing athletes of all abilities a means of entry to the world’s most challenging and prestigious one-day endurance event.’

Through this initiative, five physically challenged athletes from around the world will be drawn to receive entry to the 2016 IRONMAN World Championship, which takes place in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’I on 8 October 2016.

In addition, a separate registration and drawing will be held for three physically challenged athletes to receive entry to the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Both the IRONMAN World Championship and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship Physically Challenged Open/Exhibition Divisions will be available to athletes with a medically verified physical, visual, or neurological impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.

Athletes who are drawn for the 2016 IRONMAN World Championship will need to validate their entry by completing an IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 branded event held between 10 October 2015 and 21 August 2016.

Athletes who are drawn for the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship will need to validate their entry by completing an IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 branded event held between 30 August 2015 and 3 July 2016.

Free registration for both drawings will close on 15 March 2016 at 23:59 ET.
