Ironman Foundation becomes primary vehicle for worthy causes

World Triathlon Corp (WTC), owner of the iconic Ironman and Ironman 70.3 event series, is reportedly taking over all grant-making and administration from the Ironman Community Fund at Adirondack Community Trust.
Back in 2003, Graham and Sue Fraser of North America Sports and the Adirondack Community Trust established a partnership to develop the Ironman Community Fund, a philanthropic vehicle used to support the communities that host Ironman races.
In 2009, the North America Sports events were acquired by WTC, which itself administers the Ironman Foundation. This foundation will now be the primary entity supporting the organisations in the communities that host the Ironman events.
Non-profit organisations and communities that support the races throughout the US and Canada receive grants from the fund. Those grants focus on sports opportunities for young people in particular, as a means of spreading goodwill to those who were impacted by, and helped host, the Ironman races.
Ironman Foundation Director Paula Newby-Fraser said the trust "has been a wonderful partner over the years in guiding the Ironman experience in integrating with their host communities. Their experience in servicing the community groups around the country has created lasting relationships and integration in the fabric of the community calendars for our events.”
Executive Director Cali Brooks said the Adirondack Community Trust will "continue to work with the Ironman Foundation as we administer the Uihlein-Ironman Sports Fund to support local young athletes from the region."
Newby-Fraser added that "Ironman looks forward to continuing [its] relationship with Adirondack Community Trust through the immensely successful partnership of the Uihlein-Ironman Sports Fund."
